First up is some major coverage of the Challenge in recent weeks. Following a photo shoot with team sponsor Moss Bros at London's Mile End climbing wall on Monday 29 March, a series of photos of the team and individuals were published to the Press on the Visual Media website. These were followed later that week by our first Press Release and articles have begun popping up around the country in response. Saturday 3 April saw a delayed April Fool's day stunt as the team filmed for Meridian TV, later picked up by GMTV, on the South Downs. In 25 knot winds and driving rain, conditions were not far off the likely summit blizzards, but the team successfully mounted table and chairs for a champagne commentary on the inspiration for the expedition and its charity fundraising origins. Rob Aitken performed particularly admirably, managing to look calm and relaxed as he held the billowing table cloth down with his champagne glass in one hand and his kilt down with the other, saving Sunday television viewers a race back to confession. Meridian screened the footage on Sunday 4th and Monday 5th April on all three of their Southern networks, catapulting the mad antics of the expedition yet further into the public eye. Indeed, the BBC were determined not to be outdone by this ITV coverage, promptly calling the team the next day to offer a digital video camera to the expedition so that the summit day could be filmed for their "South-East Today" programme. Debrett's, official purveyors of all things etiquette, could stand by no longer watching this blitz of lunatic behaviour in the name of fine dining and promptly listed the Highest Altitude Dinner as one of the landmark events of the social calendar. Sponsorship has continued to roll in, thanks to the continuing efforts of the team. Congratulations to Tom and Rob Aitken for landing sponsorship from the Wright Wine Company and Pongees Limited, who have kindly provided cash, wine warmers and metres of silk, which is currently being sewn into a table cloth and luxurious chair covers by the deft skills of Mrs S. Charity sponsorship has also taken off in recent weeks. The expedition total is now over 13,000 and continues to rise daily, so get your hands into your wallets and your friends' wallets and keep sending in donations to help our three worthy charities : the British Lung Foundation, the skin cancer charity RAFT and the Kirkwood Institute. The team have launched a raffle to encourage donations, whereby all donations of 5 or more automatically enter the donor in a raffle with a host of exciting prizes donated by our sponsors. Top prize is a private party in a capsule on the London Eye, whilst runners-up prizes include cases of the finest English wine, whole stilton cheeses and a selection of Jordan's Cereals. And last up, if you didn't already know, D Day is this Saturday 10 April, when the team fly from Heathrow to Kathmandu en route to Tibet ! Rumour has it that the press will be waiting to catch the team's arrival in white-tie at the Qatar check-in desks, where the great baggage weight test kicks off the expedition proper !
