TREATMENT*

Treatment is generally with corticosteroids, most commonly prednisone, although the use of corticosteroids in mild disease has been the subject of mounting doubt. Severe disease is treated with steroids, and later with steroid-sparing agents. As the granuloma are caused by collections of immune system cells, particularly T cells, there has been some indications of success using immunosuppressants, interleukin 2 inhibitors, anti-tumor necrosis factor, and some monoclonal antibody therapies. Unfortunately, there are no conclusive results.

Treatment of Sarcoidosis is no an exact science. SILA recommend that you buy The Official Patient's Sourcebook on Sarcoidosis - Revised and Updated for the Internet Age. ISBN 0-597-83156-4 to be armed with as much information as possible. You can purchase the book through amazon.co.uk by clicking this link.

Doctor's Guide provides detailed medical documentation. For instance this is a link to page on a 2001 report showing the effectiveness of prednisone in Sarcoidosis treatment.
